Scholarship applications open January 26, 2026

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must reside within the SUNCOAST REGION that includes the State of Florida, the State of Louisiana, the Mobile–Pensacola Market area and Puerto Rico and MUST plan to attend or currently attend an accredited college or university in the SUNCOAST REGION.
  • Be a high school graduating senior or a college student (undergraduate student ONLY) with a declared major in Communications/Broadcasting with a concentration in television.
  • Applicant MUST already be accepted to a college/university.
  • Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Submit an unofficial transcript.
  • Submit a resume along with the application.
  • Submit a one-page bio.
  • Submit one of the two essay questions below (250 to 350 words):
    1. The way people access and consume news has changed significantly especially with the rise of digital media. These changes have influenced how information is shared and received by audiences today. Why is it important for journalists to change how they present and share news to match the way people consume news today?
    2. Trust in the media has been on a steady decline due to growing polarization, the internet’s impact on news sources, and the industry’s financial struggles. While rebuilding trust is crucial, it is not the only way to gauge journalism’s effectiveness. How can the media balance pursuing engagement with maintaining journalistic integrity in today’s media landscape?
